Themelia and Vitra on Sustainability in Design at Sonda Creative Center
A lecture and discussion on applying the principles of sustainable design in public spaces – particularly those with strong regional and cultural identity – brought together architects from across Croatia.
At the beginning of October, a lecture and discussion titled “How can circularity and design responsibility shape more meaningful hospitality experiences?” was held at Sonda Creative Center, organized by Themelia in collaboration with Vitra.
The session was led by Dr. Jaume Domenech, Director of Global Business Development at Vitra, a renowned Swiss brand known for its commitment to sustainability and innovation in design.
Around forty architects and designers from Istria and across Croatia joined the event to explore how Vitra’s principles of sustainable design can enhance hospitality environments – particularly those with a strong regional identity and cultural authenticity.
This event marks one of Themelia’s first initiatives dedicated to promoting sustainability in interior design, a theme that is increasingly shaping the future of architecture and spatial design.
Sustainability means creating long-lasting, high-quality solutions with minimal environmental impact – through eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient processes, and repairable and recyclable products. It also promotes ethical practices and responsible use of resources for future generations.
A warm thank you to Sonda Creative Center for their hospitality and to all participants for an inspiring exchange of ideas.
We look forward to meeting again soon!
Themelia at MBF: Vitra on the Evolution of the Modern Workplace
At the region’s leading business forum, Themelia hosted Dr. Jaume Domenech from Vitra, sharing global insights into the future of work and office design.
At the beginning of October, MBF – the largest business forum in the region – brought together leaders and innovators from across industries in Rovinj. As part of the event, Themelia hosted a keynote by Dr. Jaume Domenech, Director of Global Business Development at Vitra, the renowned Swiss brand known for its forward-thinking approach to workspace design.
Titled “Office evolution,” the lecture explored how workspaces are transforming in a rapidly changing world – highlighting creativity, collaboration, and employee wellbeing as key pillars of modern office design.
“The pandemic didn’t invent remote work – it simply accelerated existing change. The real question today is: if we can work from anywhere, why do we come together? The answer lies in creating spaces worth coming to – spaces that build culture and belonging,” said Dr. Domenech.
With over 80 years of experience and collaborations with iconic designers such as Charles and Ray Eames and Verner Panton, Vitra continues to shape adaptable, sustainable ecosystems for contemporary work environments.
As event host and design partner, Themelia reaffirmed its position as a leader in creating inspiring office spaces. The company curated and furnished the MBF VIP Lounge with selected Vitra pieces – an inviting environment for networking, dialogue, and idea exchange in a relaxed yet refined setting.

Christmas Magic at the Eames House
On Christmas Eve of 1949, Charles and Ray Eames stepped into their new Los Angeles residence – the iconic Eames House. The empty house of the steel-and-glass structure, which they designed themselves, was immediately adorned, creating a magical Christmas atmosphere.
They decorated the house with oriental paper ornaments, vibrant toys, and musical instruments. The Christmas tree was placed on a low table, giving the effect of a hanging decoration. The tree was surrounded by a carefully curated arrangement of candlesticks, toys, ornaments, and wrapped gifts, placed on Japanese mat. In short, the Eames house became a canvas for their creativity.
Charles and Ray Eames celebrated Christmas every year, eagerly anticipating the opportunity for experimenting and enriching the space with new unique ideas. Continuing the tradition of creative home decoration they began in 1949, each year they carefully selected and arranged intriguing decorations, artworks, candles, and wrapped gifts.
May their first Christmas in the Eames House inspire you to create a magical holiday atmosphere in your own home.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year,
Themelia
